In the past few month 3 chiropractic college presidents have announced their
retirement/resignation. Dr. George A Goodman of Logan College of
Chiropractic/University, Dr. Fabrizio Manici of Parker University and Dr. James
F. Winterstein of National
University of Health Science have all publicly announced that they are stepping
down within the next year.
Dr.
George A. Goodman has presided over Logan for more than 20 years and stated he
will retire by March 31st 2012. Prior to serving as President of
Logan, Dr. Goodman held the position of Logan's Vice President of Chiropractic
Affairs, Clinic Director and Dean of Postgraduate Education. Dr. Goodman will
end his educational career serving on the faculty for 44 years.
He
leaves the university as the highest paid Chiropractic College President with a
salary of $791,418, reported by the Chronicle of Higher Education for 2009. Logan
College of Chiropractic University Programs recently was acknowledge as having
the lowest tuition of a Chiropractic Institution, a student loan default rate for 2010 of .6 %, and despite recent expansion Logan
is debt free. The University also reached their highest level of enrollment at
over 1000 students currently.
The
Board of Trustees is appointing a committee to conduct a search for the next
President of Logan. That search will be focused on identifying candidates who
will help Logan continue as a leader in the field of chiropractic education and
related graduate level programs according to the school’s press release.
National University of Health President James F. Winterstein, DC, will
retire in 2013. A 1968 cum laude Doctorate of Chiropractic graduate, he also completed
his residency at National College of Chiropractic and became Board Certified in
Diagnostic Imaging in 1970.
After earning his Diplomate in Radiology he was retained as
Clinic Director at National. In 1971 he obtained the position of Chairman of the
Diagnostic Imaging department. In 1985 he accepted a full time position as
Chief of Clinic's Staff, and obtaining his current position as president of
National College of Chiropractic in 1986.
During his tenure the institution has grown from a
chiropractic college to a university system offering doctorates in Chiropractic
and Naturopathic medicine, master’s degrees in advanced practice, acupuncture and oriental
medicine, along with a BS program and allied health programs. Over the years
Dr. Weinstein has been a vocal proponent for integrative medicine and
broadening scope for chiropractic physicians.
The board voted to grant the title of President Emeritus to
Dr. Winterstein upon his retirement. He will continue to serve as an employee
of National University's new president, Joseph Stiefel DC MS, as long as his
services are deemed necessary. Dr. Steifel is currently working on a doctorate
in Education and will assume the presidency during NUHS' homecoming in the
summer of 2013. He is currently dean of the College of Professional Studies for
National University Florida campus and has been employed by the university
since 2004.
In August Parker University announced the retirement of Dr.
Fabrizio Mancini from the University as well as Parker Seminars. According to a
Press release from Parker University "Dr. Mancini made this decision to
allow for time to pursue other interests, including public speaking and media
efforts to promote chiropractic and his recently published book, and future
speaking and media opportunities to promote the health and wellness revolution
he is so passionate about leading."
It has been a public year for Dr. Fabrizio, or musingly Dr.
Fab, with the release of his latest book: The Power of Self-Healing: Unlock
Your Natural Healing Potential in 21 Days!, appearances on Dr. Phil and the
Doctors television shows.
Dr. Mancini will be leaving a salary that topped $1 million
between Parker University and Seminars. Parker
University tax returns for 2009 show a base salary of $441,371, $284,725 in
bonus and $111,048 in other compensation.
